In addition to developing external economic links municipalities are developing humanitarian contacts

In 2007 intensive development was noted in cooperation between sister-cities in Krasnodar Region. The most active in this area are Sochi, Krasnodar and Gelendzhik.

Krasnodar continues to successfully develop cooperation with the German town of Karlsruhe. On the initiative of the Embassy of the German Federal Republic in the Russian Federation and with the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation, the German Days event took place in Krasnodar from 24 to 30 September 2007. The economic block of the German Days programme included business meetings to establish direct contacts between businesses in Germany and the Southern Federal District. As part of German Days the Mayor of Karlsruhe, Heinz Fenrich, made a visit dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Karlsruhe-Krasnodar sister-city relationship and the Krasnodar Days event, and a delegation of Kralsruhe residents under the aegis of the programme to help residents get acquainted with their sister town.

For one month they worked in various departments of the town council, improving their knowledge of German and getting acquainted with the city-town and with Germany thanks to the varied programme prepared by the German side.

Outside the twinning framework, but with the aim of developing cooperation, Krasnodar was visited by a delegation from the French city of Grenoble. During meetings questions were discussed of prospects for cooperation in the fields of economy, culture and links between towns.

As part of the Days of Russian Culture event held in the Bulgarian sister city of Bourgas the Deputy Head of Krasnodar, VV Kudinov, paid a visit. The parties discussed prospects and possible directions for further development of twinning and partnership links between Krasnodar and Bourgas, including in the field of culture.

Sochi is also actively developing cooperation with its sister-cities. There is a range of projects which all Sochi’s sister-cities are taking part in: projects in the field of science, youth policy, linguistic projects, student exchanges, seminars, training sessions, historical research, etc. At the current time a further three proposals from the cities of Odessa (Ukraine), Vancouver (Canada) and Volos (Greece) are being considered.

In addition to the towns and cities of Krasnodar Region which today have sister-towns, other municipalities are studying possible prospects for such cooperation and establishing contacts with potential partners.
