Big football: welcome to Kuban!
A panel session “Organizational and economic aspects of the campaign on preparation and holding of the World Cup” was held during St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Participants identified the benefits of the hosting the football World Cup
“Russia is a country with great sport traditions and experience of major sporting events. The Olympics and football World Cup are two competitions that can’t be compared to anything else”, - said Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister. These sport events provide the country a huge economic effect, serve as a very powerful springboard for the development of infrastructure and give a huge impetus to the development of sport in the country.
The participants of an interview are Arkady Dvorkovich, presidential aide, Vitaly Mutko, President KATO Investment S.A.E., Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, Head of Bid Committee “Russia-2018/2022”, Sergei Fursenko, President of the Russian Football Union, Valery Shantsev, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dzhambulat Khatuov, First Vice-Governor of Krasnodar Region, Clyde Tuggle, Senior Vice President of Public Relations and Communications of Coca-Cola Company.
This year in May the Russian delegation gave an application book to hold the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 to Joseph Blatter, FIFA President. Russia's competitors in the struggle for the right to host World Cup-2018 are England, Australia, USA, Portugal and Spain (in common), Belgium and the Netherlands (in common). Japan, Qatar and South Korea claim only on World Cup-2022. Two Kuban cities - Krasnodar and Sochi are among Russian cities willing to host a big football feast.
“The arguments in favor of our cities are obvious”, - said Dzhambulat Khatuov, First Deputy Head of Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region. “One of the main Olympic arenas, which is located in Sochi, will be ready in time to hold the championship. We plan to build a unique object in Krasnodar, its area will be even more than 40,000 square meters, as required by FIFA, but 50 000! We believe that it will be a unique sport complex, one of the best in the country”.
In Dzhambulat Khatuov opinion a unique transportation logistics and active interest to professional sport are the advantages of Kuban. He said: “We are sure that Russia would be proud of actively developing Krasnodar Region - the most athletic region!”
In August evaluating commission of FIFA will arrive in Russia to see the city. It is planned to build new stadiums. On 2 December 2010 FIFA will choose the capital of two world championships 2018 and 2022 in Zurich.
