Resorts of the North Caucasus: we must act!
A project “Resorts of the North Caucasus” was submitted at a panel session “NEW TRAVEL DESTINATIONS – NORTH CAUCASUS” during St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with the participation of Dmitry Medvedev, the President of the Russian Federation. This project joins a number of ski resorts in Krasnodar Region, Dagestan, North Ossetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Adygeya and Kabardino-Balkaria.
Alexander Khloponin, Vice-Premier of Government of Russia and Plenipotentiary of the President in the North Caucasus Federal District said that the current status of the concept involves 450 billion rubles of private and public investments, in the final stage over 100,000 jobs will be created.
“Project does not start with a clean sheet. World-famous brands Elbrus, Kazbek, Arkhyz have already been in the North Caucasus. They will be associated with a new project”, - said Alexander Khloponin.
Today Russia accounts for only about 1 percent of world tourism flows. It is due to transport and visa problems, as well as underdeveloped tourist infrastructure. The situation is gradually changing with the opening of new hotels and resorts in popular destinations. However, the key problems to improve the popularity of tourism in Russia require a decision to change the legislation and support of key projects at the federal level.
Introducing the concept of new resort Ahmed Bilalov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Region said that major investors are interested in this project. He noticed that in conjunction with the government, it promises a great real future to the project.
“In my opinion, it is a very interesting project”, - said Dmitry Medvedev. “It is interesting for a number of reasons. The first of them is suggestion of cross-cutting issue, which would combine business enterprises of the North Caucasian republics”.
The President noted that we should use the experience of Austrian, Swiss and partly American resorts. Then he turned directly to the heads of the North Caucasus, saying: “This is a very good chance to set things right. There are a well-prepared business project, technical solutions, experience of partners and funding arrangements. So, we must act!”
