Report on Department activity for 2008

Krasnodar Region is included in the number of subjects of the Federation whose development, thanks to its geopolitical position, is of strategic importance for the Russian Federation, as a powerful transport hub and as a region contributing to the food reserves of the country. The dynamic economy of Krasnodar Region today is directly dependent on the presence of stable links with both subjects of the Russian Federation and with other countries. Significant support in external economic activity of the Administration of Krasnodar Region is given by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Chamber for Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, and their representations in Russia and abroad which as a rule act as main co-organisers of events.

At a regional level priorities for external economic activity are expansion of the geography of international links, support to Kuban producers, setting up of a system of regional brands, organisation of a system for training and retraining of personnel, and development of export potential. In addition, one important task of the Department, as a result of the selection of Sochi to host the XXII Winter Olympic Games, is the creation of a system of ‘Olympic communications'.

At the current time Krasnodar Region is interested in attracting investment in the main fields of the economy of the Region: agriculture and the processing industry, transport and communications, construction, the fuel and energy sector, and the tourist and recreation sector, and is also interested in marketing of goods produced in the region and setting up of joint businesses.
