On 8 June 2010 a delegation of the Joint Russian-Greek Commission on Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation visited Sochi
Chairman of the Russian part of the Commission was Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, Chairman of the Greek part - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Spyros Kuvelis.
“Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation considers the possibility of cooperation with Greece during the preparation and holding of the Winter Olympic Games in “Sochi-2014”,- said Minister of Transport Igor Levitin at a press conference with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Spyros Kuvelis. "We appreciate the Russian-Greek relations concerning the hosting of Olympics . The Greek delegation involves representatives of transport, shipping companies and transport logistics," - said Levitin.
In turn Spyros Kuvelis admired the pace of Olympic construction projects in Sochi and invited the President of the Organizing Committee of the “Sochi-2014” Dmitry Chernyshenko in Athens.
During the visit of the Greek delegation to our region Spyros Kuvelis met with the First Deputy Head of Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region Dzhambulat Khatuov and Deputy Head of Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region Alexander Ivanov. There was a presentation of construction projects of Olympic infrastructure, inspection of transport infrastructure and negotiations on the possible participation of Greek partners in their construction. There was a separate meeting with the representatives of the Greek diaspora of Sochi.
