Summary of Krasnodar Region delegation's participation in the XII St Petersburg International Economic Forum

From 6 to 8 June 2008 a delegation from Krasnodar Region led by Governor Aleksander Tkachev took part in the XII St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

After the opening ceremony of the forum the Krasnodar Region delegation participated in the plenary session National Economic Interests and Global Management Institutions, themed conferences and round tables where they discussed and asked questions about issues of developing the Russian economy.

During the forum working meetings were held by the Head of the Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region Aleksander Tkachev and delegates with representatives of Russian and foreign political and business circles.

At the meeting between Aleksander Tkachev, the Minister for the Economy and External Trade of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jeannot Krecke and the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the Russian Federation Gaston Stronck plans for developing bilateral cooperation were discussed. As a result of the meeting agreement was reached on carrying out a presentation of Krasnodar Region next year in Luxembourg during the Days of Russian Regions event, and on possible participation by Luxembourg companies in realising investment projects within Krasnodar Region. By invitation of the Governor the Minister for the Economy and External Trade of Luxembourg, accompanied by a number of businessmen, visited Sochi from 9 to 11 June this year.

With the Ambassador of Japan in Russia Yasuo Saito, Aleksander Tkachev discussed questions of developing bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic and humanitarian spheres. The result of the meeting was a proposal by the Ambassador to carry out a presentation of Krasnodar Region for members of the Japanese Business Club at the Japanese Embassy in Moscow.

One subject of a business meeting between the Governor with the President of PepsiCo International Michael White and the General Manager of Frito Lay Russia Paul Kiesler was discussion of questions of investment cooperation by the PepsiCo International company with Krasnodar Region, realisation in the South of Russia of agricultural, educational and charitable programmes, as well as introducing progressive technologies for growing and processing agricultural products in the Region.

The main subject of the meeting between Aleksander Tkachev with the Vice President, Head of the representation of the Finmeccanica company in Russia, Leonard Pavoni, and the President of the Robert Bosch company and plenipotentiary representative of the Bosch group in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Rene Schlegal, was investment cooperation. The parties also discussed questions of further expansion in cooperation during preparation for and carrying out of the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, and participation in the VII International Investment Forum Sochi 2008.

Business meetings and negotiations were held between Governor Aleksander Tkachev and managers of domestic and foreign banking structures such as KMB Bank, Sberbank of Russia, Deutsche Bank and UBS. One subject for discussion was financing of investment projects in Krasnodar Region in the fields of construction and infrastructure, agriculture, health care and a range of other spheres.

The Deputy Head of the Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region Evgenii Muravev met with the Director General of GSO Gilles Sebihi and the President of Saint Gobain in Poland, Russia and Ukraine Jean Laronze. During the meeting Evgenii Muravev discussed questions of participation by a delegation from the Region in the MIPIM 2009 international exhibition in Cannes, and prospects for construction of new agricultural production in Krasnodar Region.

Meetings and negotiations were carried out in the Krasnodar Region pavilion. With the aim of more fully informing guests and participants at the forum about the investment attractiveness of the Kuban, presentations were made on the screens erected in the pavilion of the most promising projects to develop the economy of the region.

All participants of the meetings received a personal invitation from the Governor to take part in the International Investment Forum Sochi 2008.
