1 Visits by delegations from Krasnodar Region and Luxembourg
In 2003 Krasnodar Region was visited twice by Representatives of the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Russia on questions of humanitarian and economic cooperation, as well as questions of attracting investment.
In particular, in February 2003 Krasnodar Region was visited by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Russia Camille Weiss, the Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of France on social questions Jean Cheriachukin with his wife, and Professor of Strasbourg University Gilbert Massard.
The aim of the visit was to learn about the economic and social situation in Krasnodar Region. During the visit meetings were held with managers in the Administration of Krasnodar Region and representatives of the health care sphere in the Region. During a visit to Regional Clinical Hospital No4, the Thoracic Surgery Centre, representatives of the delegation made a presentation of a gift of two respiratory apparatuses and were informed of the requirements of the centre in equipment, medicines and consumables.
The delegation met with the heads of Goryachii Klyuch and visited businesses in the region that have investment potential. Close contacts with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Krasnodar Region are basically being developed in health care and provision of aid to the Thoracic Surgery Centre, and in this Professor Gilbert Massard has provided great assistance.
In December 2003 the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador for Luxembourg in Russia, Carlo Kreiger made an official visit to Krasnodar Region with the aim of learning about the economic and social situation in the region and to make a presentation of a gift to the Regional Thoracic Surgery Centre of surgical equipment and medicines.
At a meeting with managers of the Administration of Krasnodar Region Mr Krieger noted that the Kuban is one of the most dynamically developing regions in attracting investment from abroad, and expressed his hope that the economic relations between Krasnodar Region and Luxembourg will be expanded.
Within the framework of the visit the Ambassador visited the largest thoracic surgery centre in the south of Russia.
From 8 to 9 April 2008 the Deputy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the Russian Federation, Sacha Balit, made a working visit to Krasnodar Region.
The aim of the visit was to learn about the economic and investment potential of the Region, to discuss questions on preparing for forthcoming meetings by the management of the Administration of the Region with the Minister for the Economy and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Jeannot Krecké and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the Russian Federation, Gaston Stronck, within the framework of the International Investment Forum in St Petersburg in June of that year.
In Krasnodar Sasha Bali met with the head of the Department of External Economic Activity of Krasnodar Region A Tkachenko. The parties discussed questions of forthcoming meetings by management, participation by representatives of Luxembourg in the Sochi International Investment Forum of that year, and prospects for development of bilateral relations in various spheres.
Within the framework of the meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Krasnodar Region Sasha Bali noted the particular interest of representatives of the business structures of Luxembourg in establishing relations with businesses in the Region in such fields as metallurgy, construction, glass production, finance and banking activities. The parties agreed on organisation of an economic mission of business circles from Luxembourg to be led by the Minister for the Economy and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Jean Krecké in June that year, on exchange of information on investment projects and businesses interested in cooperation, and also on establishing regular contact with the aim of developing prospects and establishing other bilateral relations.
On 9 April Sasha Bali visited Sochi, where a meeting was held with representatives of the local Administration on questions of participation by Luxembourg business circles in investment projects in preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
This visit gave a stimulus to further continuation of the dialogue of representatives of Krasnodar Region and Luxembourg, stated the main priorities for further cooperation and made possible the acquiring of current information on interest in the Region.
2 Foreign trade turnover
According to Customs statistics in 2007 the foreign trade turnover of Krasnodar Region with Luxembourg totalled $240 000. The balance of trade was negative (-$109 300).
Exports were carried out to a value of $64 800.
Imports were carried out to a value of $174 200.
In 2008 foreign trade turnover of Krasnodar Region and Luxembourg totalled $500 000. The balance of trade was negative (-$417 000).
Exports were carried out to a value of $320 200.
Imports were carried out to a value of $59 900.
3 Organisations using Luxembourg capital
Today there are six businesses with foreign capital from Luxembourg registered in Krasnodar Region, one of which is 100% foreign capital.
The total registered capital of the businesses totals 9.561 million rubles, and the share of foreign investment in start up capital totals 9.088 million rubles. The main type of activity is production and marketing of low-alcohol drinks, and storage and marketing of agricultural products.
The largest and most effective organisations with participants from Luxembourg currently carrying out agricultural activities are: Krasnodarekoneft, Ferrotid, Interkonsalt Rus Lyuks, Yuzhnii Bereg, Russkii Les, and Rosh Sochi.
